Diana's SPOILER FREE review of The Dark Knight Rises

Was great but not as good as the last one, no one will ever top Heath's performance. Anne Hathaway was surprisingly good as Catwoman - her body is bangin'! I adore Joseph Gordon Levitt. Why couldn't they make Bane's voice easier to understand? I needed subtitles from that damn mask. And last but not least - after that ending, I need more movies! Come back Chris Nolan!

i can cosign this review, and starla completely agrees.

Starla's review:
2 constant thoughts during the movie...
1) HOT DAMN christian bale and tom hardy have been working out
2) where is 90W? can i see it during the aerial shots?

my official 2Pz review of the twilight saga : breaking dawn, part 1

rachel: well, how was it?!
me: well
i'll tell you
it was just awful!
rachel: oh no!
what?!
me: unenjoyable
i never want to see it again
rachel: crap
me: i think the last one will be better
the subject matter coverred in this one was just bad
and horribly depicted
rachel: weddings, babies
doing it?
me: that takes up about 20 minutes
then its another 90 minutes of just awful sickness and pain and bones breaking and being ripped open
interspersed with long depressing silences and taylor lautner deficating all over the profession of acting
rachel: oh god
so ill wait for it to show up on demand i guess
or spare myself totally
me: no you should see it
you must see it

did you see it? what did you think? i'm so curious.

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR.

Researchers have found an exotic planet made completely of diamond, orbiting an even more exotic star relatively close to Earth.
The new planet is more dense than anything observed before, and is made almost entirely of carbon. Because the molecules are so tightly packed together, researchers calculate that it must be crystalline in nature, making it effectively diamond. (via)
in related news, john and i saw 'another earth' last night.  it was about 7 or 8 biscuits.

another end of the year list

my favorite movies of 2010, by joel.

toy story 3
those little toys and their grim acceptance of their impending deaths made me cry real tears in the theater. best animated film ever?

i am love
tilda swinton knocks me out in this really beautiful italian film where the visual element makes up for an otherwise simple plot.

black swan
an academy award winning performance. drama drama drama! and sex and violence.

inception
this one had everyone talking. it was loud, visually stunning, fast paced, and an original blockbuster.

the kids are alright
the performances are stunning.

joan rivers : a piece of work
joan rivers continues to make herself relevant. that in and of itself is quite an accomplished piece of work.

best 3D movie:
step up 3D

movies i havnt seen, that i am looking forward to.
127 hours
burlesque
easy a
exit through the gift shop
the ghost writer
the kings speech
the social network
the town
true grit

2Pz movie review : black swan (part 1 - no spoilers)

well, i saw that movie everyone's been talking about. black swan, starring natalie portman, mila kunis, vincent cassel, barbara hershey, and (surprise!) winona ryder. i am reluctant to properly review this movie, because most of america doesn't even have the option to see it yet (wide release december 22 aka my birthday). i just gave joel my initial morning-after reaction, so i'll share that with you.

me: well i saw black swan last night
Joel: go onnnn
me: im not going to spoil anything for you
it was incredible though
Joel: yay!
me: like.....i had my eyes covered for most of the first hour
Joel: are you going to give it biscuits
me: it was really hard to watch
and i needed 11 cigarettes when it was over
Joel: i cant wait to see it
me: which is the exact reaction i had to requiem
Joel: natalie!
me: except that i hated that movie
this one, i loved
Joel: and im so excited about mila kunis being employed again
me: but i dont know if i will ever want to watch it again
it was so intense
it might be the most intense movie i've ever seen
mila is the bomb
Joel: oooOOOOOooo
what about the STRANgers
me: its 10 times more intense than the strangers
Joel: jeebus
me: and you now how intense i think that movie is
the first hour i was like 'why do people like this?'
and then by the time it was over
i wanted to give it a standing ovation
maybe my review should just be this gchat
Joel: that is quite a reaction
me: ps
natalie has that oscar locked up

...anyway, 11 biscuits!!!

joel can do the part 2 review when he gets his eyes on this movie.

side note: i wanted to know where a certain scene was filmed, so i googled "black swan party scene", and ended up here. ctM!

love and other drugs movie review

i went with ashley last night to studio on the square to watch love and other drugs, the cute one with jake gyllenhaal and anne hathaway. it was a charmer. on a scale of zero or eleven biscuits, i give it.... 11 BISCUITS! it can be seen as a pretty formulaic and predictable rom-com, but the performances by the two leads really elevate the entire film. it is funny, sexy, witty, and yet, sometimes cloying. the story gets a little soggy for me when it takes itself a little to seriously and tries to comment on the state of healthcare and the role of pharmaceutical companies. but, its a fun film, and there is a lot of flesh, so take your main squeeze and go see it.

26 October 2010

i am love, redux

sometimes things bear repeating. kylie already reviewed this little picture, but since it never opened in wide release, there is a good chance you never had the opportunity to see it.

i saw it last night (netflix) and was totally mesmerized. it was a visual feast and tells a timeless story, see it any way you can. not enough biscuits for tilda swinton.

also, here is another internet challenge for you... i want to know what font was used on the title card graphics between scenes during the film. help?

05 October 2010

let me in

i saw let me in last night. if you have seen the swedish film this one is adapted from, then you know exactly what to expect. it is nice though that they were able to make the transition to english and an american setting without losing what made the original so great. it is a tense dark fairy tale with incredible performances from the two kids who have to carry the film. also, totally on the nose with all the bullying stuff going on right now. two more things: the cgi kind of blows, except for a car crash scene that is the best i have ever seen in any movie.
11 biscuits, natch

"dont go see it"

when nymag interviewed mr. m. night, he hadn't heard any critical reaction to his film... then they told him. ctm.

30 June 2010

let's talk about eclipse.

OBVI, it was 11 biscuits, so i don't need to review it for real. i just want to share some random thoughts, and hear yours too. let's begin.

what was with bella's wig? k-stew's hair is her one redeeming quality, and a twilight star on it's own. it looked just terrible. and i never want that to happen again.

jasper, i didn't know you had a confederate southern accent. that's because you've never spoken that way before. and actually, you didn't break it out until you started rehashing your civil war stories. and when you were done talking about that, you dropped the accent again.

taylor lautner is one terrible actor. i lol'd pretty much every time he spoke. but he's a crowd pleaser. he won "most hollers at the court street theater" by a landslide.

riley was a really great addition.

bryce howard was a terrible victoria. i want old, better victoria back.

the wolves looked so much meaner. but still cute as hell! FLUFFZ!!!

ummmm.....what else? well, what did you guys think?

oh, one last thing. next time you watch it, mentally replace the word 'imprint' in the dialogue with 'come', and you'll have lolz4dayz! (as in: bella: how do you know when you've imprinted on someone? jacob: when it happens, you just know.)  you're welcome!

SATC2 : movie review

well, last night i was invited to join my mom and her friends for a good ol' fashioned suburban viewing of sex and the city 2.

i give it 5 gaycist and racist biscuits. even their outfits were racist. and carrie told their escort that her flight on the middle eastern airline was like a magic carpet ride.

i will say that i was thoroughly entertained throughout, and they got a few laughs out of me. i won't go into specifics, because there was just too much, but everyone should see it. if they're lucky, this will become a cult classic.

fave line (impossible to choose, but i think it sums up the tone of the whole movie):

"i can't be in menopause AND in coach!!!!" - samantha

what was your favorite moment?
