Southern Hospitality is Dead

I mean, the Justin Timberlake owned terrible restaurant on the Upper East Side has closed. There are people on facebook that just can't believe it, but that place was the definition of over priced and mediocre. If you just can't stand it, there is another one in Hell's Kitchen and one in Denver. via

things i stole from carly kiel's facebook today

I apologize to those of you who were already aware of this, but it has come to my attention that "Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan" is an anagram of "My ultimate Ayn Rand porn" and I believe I would be failing in my responsibilities as a friend/family member/human being not to pass along this incredible piece of information. thanks carly!

NYPD dummies.

so back around the west indies parade time, a bunch of racist NYPD cops (allegedly!) started a facebook page, and proceeded to publish thousands of ill-advised comments under their real names. the new york times has found that 60% of the names of those involved are also the names of police officers, so.
The comments in the online group, which grew over a few days to some 1,200 members, were at times so offensive in referring to West Indian and African-American neighborhoods that some participants warned others to beware how their words might be taken in a public setting open to Internal Affairs “rats.”
But some of the people who posted comments seemed emboldened by Facebook’s freewheeling atmosphere. “Let them kill each other,” wrote one of the Facebook members who posted comments under a name that matched that of a police officer.
“Filth,” wrote a commenter who identified himself as Nick Virgilio, another participant whose name matched that of a police officer. “It’s not racist if it’s true,” yet another wrote.
classic.
“They can keep the forced overtime,” said one writer, adding that the safety of officers comes “before the animals.”
Wrote another: “Bloodbath!!! The worst detail to work.”
“I say have the parade one more year,” wrote a commenter who identified himself as Dan Rodney, “and when they all gather drop a bomb and wipe them all out.” Reached on Monday, Mr. Rodney confirmed that he was a police officer and that he had used Facebook, though rarely, but denied making the comment. “That wasn’t me,” he said before suggesting that someone else might have been responsible. “I leave my phone around sometimes. Other than that I have no comment.” (via)

get well get well soon

stephanie told me the facebook pic of my head injury reminded her of this.

another helpful facebook improvement

Finally, Facebook is helping users create a list of real friends inside their official friends list. There's no need to share everything with everyone, after all. But watch out, because people will know when they're downgraded to your D-list.
Throughout the next week, Facebook will create empty lists of "close friends," "acquaintances" and "restricted" buddies for everyone, according to the Facebook blog. As you add friends to these lists, their posts will be specially weighted in your news feed, and you'll be able to target status updates and photos at them. Facebook will also generate, and magically pre-populate, "smart lists" of work, school and family friends at whom you can also target content. (via)

24 August 2011

this is a life improvement.

as of tomorrow, there will be a setting on facebook that disables photos of you being tagged without your pre-approval.
Profile Tag Review
Before: Photos you were tagged in would show up on your profile as soon as you were tagged. One of the top requests we've heard is for the ability to approve these tags before they show up on your profile.
Going Forward: You can choose to use the new tool to approve or reject any photo or post you are tagged in before it's visible to anyone else on your profile. (via)
and some other stuff.
