the state of tennessee is emBEARassing, again
This time it is pretty weird. Apparently there was a UN resolution from 1992 called Agenda 21 that was written to encourage sustainable development, environmental regulation, and smart growth. Representative Glen Casada says, NOT IN MY BACKYARD!!!WHEREAS, this United Nations Agenda 21 plan of radical so-called “sustainable development” views the American way of life of private property ownership, single-family homes, private car ownership and individual travel choices, and privately owned farms all as destructive to the environment; and
WHEREAS, according to the United Nations Agenda 21 policy, social justice is described as the right and opportunity of all people to benefit equally from the resources afforded us by society and the environment which would be accomplished by socialist/communist redistribution of wealth; and
WHEREAS, according to the United Nations Agenda 21 policy, national sovereignty is deemed a social injustice; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that the General Assembly recognizes the destructive and insidious nature of United Nations Agenda 21 and hereby exposes to the public and public policymakers the dangerous intent of the plan.

who to root for? Packers v Steelers
Go Packers! They have the most Vols on their team. Decision made.Former Tennessee offensive linemen Chad Clifton (1995-1999) and Scott Wells (1999-2003) are starters on the offensive line for Green Bay. Defensive lineman Justin Harrell (2002-2005) is on the Packers’ injured reserve roster. The Packers are heading to the Super Bowl for the fifth time in team history, and these former Vols will help the team try to win its first Super Bowl championship since 1997. The Pittsburgh Steelers are represented by two former offensive line standouts Ramon Foster (2004-2008) and Chris Scott (2005-2008). Foster is a starter on the Steelers’ offensive line. The Steelers are attempting to win the franchise’s third Super Bowl championship in the last six seasons.

According to the park's online shop, you can "bring home the most cherished and iconic element of Bryant Park, the signature bistro chair. Your Vintage Bryant Park Chair will be selected from the park’s collection of distinctive furniture, greatly coveted and used daily by Midtown professionals and Manhattan dwellers alike. Each steel-framed chair, fitted with wooden slats, is painted in our custom shade, 'Bryant Park Green.' recycle your blues : gap
if you have some old jeans and you need some more space in closet, consider this:Starting tomorrow (October 6th) through October 20th, Gap stores will graciously take cast-off denim off of your hands and recycle it into UltraTouch Natural Cotton Fiber Insulation as part of the Recycle Your Blues event. The insulation will then be incorporated into building projects that aim to keep families in need warm (and keep energy bills low) throughout the winter. And like the Gap’s similar Cotton: From Blue To Green campaign from last spring, denim discarders will be rewarded with 30 percent off a pair of new Gap 1969 jeans (add an extra 10 percent if you become a fan of the Gap on Facebook).

Union Station in Washington, DC, is showing off a shiny new Bike Transit Center that offers secure bike parking for 150 cycles, plus a changing room, lockers, bike rentals, and a repair shop for commuters. Access to the center costs $1 per day or a yearly membership fee of $100, which includes round-the-clock entry. The facility will be the first of its kind on the East Coast, part of an effort to encourage eco-friendly commuting with the promise of added security for bicycles. Eighty-percent of the funding for the $4-million bike center came from the US Department of Transportation, with additional funds from the DDOT. (via)

self-sustained water-based living
ONE afternoon last week, Mary Mattingly, a 30-year-old sculptor and photographer who has been living in a two-bedroom walk-up in Queens, gave a reporter a tour of her new home, a 30-by-100-foot barge moored at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.“This is the living quarters,” Ms. Mattingly said, standing on deck and pointing to a half-built shed made of scrap wood. “And over here,” she continued, walking toward an area enclosed by an iron fence, “is where the greenhouse will be.” (nytimes)

earth hour
Saturday would be a great time to be an astronaut with a window seat in a rocket ship circling the earth.
That way you’d be able to watch as the lights go out in more than 2,000 cities around the world during Earth Hour, a coordinated event that aims to draw attention to climate change and global warming.
Lights are scheduled to go out at hundreds of popular tourist landmarks and buildings worldwide, including New York, London, Paris, Dubai, Hong Kong, Moscow and Nairobi. (msnbc)

happy st patty's day!!
In the past, Saint Patrick's Day was celebrated as a religious holiday. It became a public holiday in 1903, by the Money Bank. (Ireland) Act 1903, an Act of the United Kingdom Parliament introduced by the Irish MP James O'Mara.[14] O'Mara later introduced the law which required that pubs be closed on 17 March, a provision which was repealed only in the 1970s. The first St. Patrick's Day parade held in the Irish Free State was held in Dublin in 1931 and was reviewed by the then Minister of Defence Desmond Fitzgerald. Although secular celebrations now exist, the holiday remains a religious observance in Ireland, for both the Church of Ireland and Roman Catholic Church. (read more here!)
