This is Richard Hayne, President and CEO of Urban Outfitters. He’s also a supporter of Rick Santorum and donated over $13,000 to him. He’s against gay marriage and abortion.

His company pulled a pro-gay shirt back in 08, they also blatantl...y ripped off an Etsy designers work, featured a t-shirt for women that said “eat less” and most recently had a card with a “tranny” slur on in.

He also owns Anthropologie and Free People.

it's only fun when he's on your team.

“Are you sure I didn’t get blamed for the Kentucky game? I’m sure somebody somewhere blamed me for that,” Kiffin told the AJC with a laugh.
"After we left two years ago, and I don’t remember the timeline, there were some floods in Tennessee. So people around here were joking that was my fault — that there were floods there." (via)

that's a lot of food and the internet is for jerks

First of all, I don't care if you say "you can't cook," you should not be ordering 2.6 meals a day delivered to you. That's IN. SANE.

Second of all, I had no idea you could order cookies, where would i get cookies from? That's a good idea.

Third of all, the internet takes issue with these statistics (of course)

  1. James says:

There stats on the Pizza are a little off… 800,000 Pizzas at 3 inches per box is 2.4 million inches or 200,000 feet…
That would make each story 1ft 4in tall…
And… even if right… I didn’t know the empire state building was 1000 stories tall!?!?! DOH!
  2. John says:

    Aww poor seamless. . .

They’re good at getting food delivered. . . we don’t pay for them to compile statistics! (thankgod :P)

    UPDATE!!!!!

    Shannon says:
While there is certainly a typo in the pizzas category (The Empire is NOT 1000 stories tall), it is accurate, at approximately 3″ per pizza box, that it the height would be the same as 150 Empire State Buildings for 800,000 pizzas. Check the height of the Empire State Building and do the math. It DOES add up.

is everyone caught up?

congressional leaders managed to strike a deal on a bill, which passed in the house yesterday, and will be voted on by the senate today. nobody is happy, which is the hallmark of a good compromise. and by "a good compromise", i mean "things are worse than ever."

did you guys hear who showed up to cast a vote last minute?

Scores of Democrats initially held back from voting, to force Republicans to register their positions first. Then, as the time for voting wound down, Representative Gabrielle Giffords, Democrat of Arizona, returned to the floor for the first time since being shot in January and voted for the bill to jubilant applause and embraces from her colleagues. It provided an unexpected, unifying ending to a fierce standoff in the House. (via)

drrrrAAaaAaAmmmaaaaAAaAAA!!!

so if you pay attention to anything, you know that the wildly hypocritical republicans used the expiration of long-term unemployment assistance to force obama to agree to a tax plan that included extensions of bush-era tax cuts for rich people. to the dismay of many democrats in congress, he agreed to compromise and is opting to to let the rich people keep their money as long as the poor, unemployed americans can still afford to live.

well, the democrats think this was a bit of a pu$$y move, and in a meeting today, agreed they would vote down obama's repub-friendly tax plan when it comes through congress.
“In the caucus today, House Democrats supported a resolution to reject the Senate Republican tax provisions as currently written,” Ms. Pelosi said. “We will continue discussions with the President and our Democratic and Republican colleagues in the days ahead to improve the proposal before it comes to the House floor for a vote.”
The caucus vote, which is not necessarily binding, nonetheless put Ms. Pelosi in a rare direct conflict with the White House, which is pressing Congress to approve the tax cut proposal. (via)
omg dRaMa!! giving those republican jerks a little taste of the snake they bite us with, amiright!

bad news is, instead of wrapping this mess up before christmas and moving on to a DADT repeal, we're going to just fight for a while, and congress may even get shut down!

oh and ps, republicans blocked a bill to provide healthcare aid to 9/11 workers today. again.

Sucks to be you, Lane Kiffin

So Reggie Bush (Mr. Kim Kardashian) and coach Pete Carroll cheated while they were at USC. The NCAA concluded there investigation and have handed down a sanction for the west coast powerhouse. USC is ineligible for post-season bowl games for two years. Bush and Carroll have both moved on to be millionares in the NFL. Kiffin, as you know, ditched the V.O.L.S. to take Carroll's job. Now he's screwed. HA!

It's just that easy.

Zach Motl is a guy with a tiny apartment in Brooklyn. By virtue of his minescule living space, the Times thought it important to write about how novel living in a small apartment can be. I've read this sort of story before, "only in NY! amiright?" Close to 1000 doll hairs for 178 square feet. Fine, you are being fleeced, but what really g's my g, is this postscript:

"By November of 2008, Mr. Motl wanted just one (full-time) job. He was still waiting tables to support himself while he worked part time for Mr. Redd. A friend showed him a posting on Craigslist by Robert Couturier & Associates, the upscale architecture and design firm.

The ad was for a junior designer, with three years’ experience and knowledge of AutoCAD, the computer drafting program. Mr. Motl didn’t meet either of those requirements, but he did have pictures of this apartment. He got the job."

It's just that easy. sigh.

The reason this is so frustrating at this very moment is that I am a qualified candidate with a master's degree sitting at a two-day job fair in Boston with only 1 interview scheduled, for a job in Arizona. The worst part is, I forgot to bring pictures of my quirky apartment.

what? architects are unemployed?

the new york times delivers some shocking news, and profiles some architecture jerks who used their brains to make new jobs for themselves:

"A troubled economy and the implosion of the real estate market have thrown thousands of architects and designers out of work in the last year or so, forcing them to find or create jobs. According to the latest data available from the Department of Labor, employment at American architecture firms, which peaked last July at 224,500, had dropped to 184,600 by November.

It’s hard to find a place to hide when the economy goes down,” said Kermit Baker, the chief economist at the American Institute of Architects. “There aren’t any strong sectors now.”

And it’s not clear when the industry will recover. Architecture firms are still laying off employees, and Mr. Baker doesn’t expect them to rehire until billings recover, which he thinks won’t be until the second half of this year at the earliest.

In the meantime, many of those who have been laid off are discovering new talents often unrelated to architecture." (

jerkstore.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Lane Kiffin damaged the car loaned to him while he was Tennessee's coach when he ran it off the road in the fall.

Lexus of Knoxville said in a statement that the Lexus vehicle was towed to the dealership and Kiffin's insurance paid the claim on the car. Dealership representatives did not return a call by The Associated Press seeking further details.

No incident report was filed by local authorities.

Tennessee spokeswoman Tiffany Carpenter says the incident happened in August near Kiffin's home in Knoxville but no internal investigation was conducted by the university.

Carpenter says it is her understanding that Kiffin had been working late and slid off the road as he was going home. (via)

nope.

New York Times Chairman Arthur Sulzberger Jr. appears close to announcing that the paper will begin charging for access to its website, according to people familiar with internal deliberations. After a year of sometimes fraught debate inside the paper, the choice for some time has been between a Wall Street Journal-type pay wall and the metered system adopted by the Financial Times, in which readers can sample a certain number of free articles before being asked to subscribe. The Times seems to have settled on the metered system. (via)
